I have said it before but the hard fact is that we didn’t gain the extra weight overnight and they are not going to come off overnight. To achieve real weight loss; you need to understand that it is a slow process. Sure; there are some plans that allow you to lose a few pounds very quickly but unless you change your lifestyle the pounds will come back as fast as they left.
Lifestyle along with a realistic program is the key! Erase the word DIET from your vocabulary because this can set you up for failure. Almost everybody that hears you are dieting will unintentionally do things to sabotage you. If you say you are trying to adopt a healthy lifestyle people will generally applaud you and try to help.
Your new lifestyle should include:
1. Exercise
you need to establish an exercise program that is realistic. Make it fun and something that you look forward to doing each day. Find an activity that you can enjoy. If nothing else; take a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood.
2. Menu and eating Plan:
Most experts agree that you should eat at least 4 to 6 meals each day with smaller portions. The meals should be well balanced and healthy. Do a little research; there are all kinds of meal plans that are online and will work in your program.
3. A Daily Journal:
Keep a journal to track your progress. A journal allows you to document what you are eating and how much you are exercising. Then if you find you are not losing weight like you expect; you can check to see where you are going wrong.
Don’t beat yourself up if you occasionally fall off your program. It is an established fact that even professional pilots are off course at least 90% of the time. Your journal like a compass will help you see when you drift off course and then you can make a few adjustments to get back on course.
4. Set a Realistic and Achievable Goal:
All journeys begin with a destination. Set your goal but be realistic; decide on the amount of weight you want to lose and establish a time line. Print it off and place it where you can look at it daily and then use this to inspire you to work towards hitting your goal.
Remember that you have to be real. The joy in any journey is not in reaching the goal but it is the journey itself. Set mile posts for your program and celebrate each time you reach one. Use this achievement to motivate you to your next mile post.
